Noteful review: price, free version and privacy

Our verdict

Noteful is a good choice for students who want a fast, cheap notebook without a subscription. If you want many pen types, planners or AI summaries, look at a larger app.

What Noteful is

Noteful is a handwriting and PDF markup app built mainly for iPad and Apple Pencil. It offers three brushes, shape recognition, PDF and Microsoft Office import, audio recording synced to your writing, and a tagging system that accepts nested tags. The description says the app is free to use without time limit, with some features unlocked by a one-time Pro purchase.

Who it suits

• Students who want a one-time purchase
• Handwritten class notes and PDF annotation on iPad

Strengths

• A single $6.99 purchase unlocks Pro features forever, according to the description.
• Audio recording with playback synced to your notes.
• Flexible nested tags, such as #biology/cells, instead of only folders.
• No tracking and no data linked to you, according to the privacy label.

Limits

• Three brushes is a short list next to larger note apps.
• Layers and sync between iPhone and iPad need the Pro unlock.
• The listing gives no developer website.
• The newest experimental feature, handwriting-to-text conversion of lasso selections, requires iOS 27.

What the free version does

The description says Noteful is free to use without time limit. Features marked as Pro, including layers and device sync, need the one-time upgrade.

Price

On the US App Store in November 2026, the only item is "Noteful Pro, Lifetime" at $6.99. The description says it is a one-time purchase.

Privacy
