Kalam review: price, free version and privacy

Our verdict

Kalam is worth a trial for learners who mainly want to practice speaking Arabic out loud. Confirm which variety of Arabic it teaches before committing to a long plan.

What Kalam is

Kalam, released in June 2025, focuses on speaking Arabic. The description lists three features: conversations with AI characters tailored to different scenarios, an immersive course with speaking drills, video lessons and interactive questions, and flashcard review. The description states that all three require a subscription.

Who it suits

• Arabic learners who want speaking practice without a partner
• Learners ready to pay for conversation drills

Strengths

• AI conversation practice in everyday scenarios, such as meeting a friend or ordering coffee
• Courses that combine speaking drills, video lessons and questions
• No data linked to your identity in the privacy label
• Updated in October 2026, rated 4.7 from about 6,800 ratings

Limits

• Every listed feature requires a subscription, according to the description
• The listing does not say whether it teaches Modern Standard Arabic or a dialect
• Purchases and usage data may be used for tracking
• A screenshot shows 4.8 stars and 12.4k+ ratings, higher than the US listing's 4.7 from about 6,800

What the free version does

The description says the AI conversations, the course and the flashcard review all require a subscription, so very little is usable for free. Several plans are named "Free Trial", which suggests a trial period before billing.

Price

On the US App Store in November 2026, the price list includes Kalam Monthly at $9.99, a "Free Trial (1 Year)" plan at $99.99, and other "Free Trial" plans at $29.99, $34.99, $44.99, $49.99, $59.99 and $69.99 without stated periods.

Privacy

The developer declares that purchases and usage data may be used to track you. Those same types are collected without being linked to your identity.
