Flashcards Deluxe review: price, free version and privacy

Our verdict

Flashcards Deluxe suits learners who want full control over card layout and are happy to build decks in a spreadsheet, with no subscription. If you want a modern design, premade decks or built-in AI, choose a newer app.

What Flashcards Deluxe is

Flashcards Deluxe is a long-running flashcard app, on the App Store since 2009, built for people who make their own decks. Cards can have up to five sides, for example a word, its pronunciation, an example sentence and a definition. You can build sets in a spreadsheet or text file, import cards made with an AI tool or shared by others, and study with optional spaced repetition, multiple choice, spelling tests, quizzes or audio slideshows.

Strengths

• Up to five sides per card, per the description.
• A one-time $4.99 price; the description says "No subscriptions. Pay once."
