EWA review: price, free version and privacy

Our verdict

EWA suits learners who already know the basics and want to grow vocabulary by reading and watching real material. Beginners who need grammar taught step by step, or who want a language other than English, Spanish or French, should look at a course app.

What EWA is

EWA teaches English, Spanish or French through content. The description lists more than 10,000 books with audio where you tap an unknown word to translate and save it, video courses built on movie and TV scenes, everyday dialogues and over 40,000 flashcards with spaced repetition. The screenshots also show an AI tutor screen for spoken practice.

Who it suits

• Learners who want to read books in English
• Building vocabulary from books, scenes and flashcards

Strengths

• A large library of books with audio, and tap-to-translate on any word, according to the description.
• Saved words feed a flashcard deck with spaced repetition.
• Video courses use movie and TV scenes for pronunciation practice.
• The interface is available in 41 languages.
• Rated 4.7 from about 196,600 ratings and updated in October 2026.

Limits

• Only three languages to learn: English, Spanish and French.
• The line between free and paid content is not clear in the listing.
• Identifiers are declared for tracking.
• Less guided than a step-by-step course, and rated 13+.

What the free version does

The description says books, video courses and flashcards are available for free, but also that a subscription is needed to access all courses and features. It adds that available courses vary by your device language, so the free amount is hard to judge from the listing.

Price

On the US App Store in November 2026, one-month subscriptions are listed at $11.99 and $15.99, a six-month subscription at $34.99, and one-year subscriptions at $49.99 and $99.99. There is no lifetime option on the price list.

Privacy

The privacy label says identifiers may be used to track you across other companies' apps and websites. Contact info, identifiers, usage data and diagnostics are collected without being linked to you.

What the screenshots show

The screenshots show cartoon characters, a book library with classics such as Dracula and The Time Machine next to coin and streak counters, and an AI tutor screen with a microphone button for speaking.
