Chessable review: price, free version and privacy

Our verdict

Pick Chessable if you want to learn and review openings and endgames through structured courses. If you mainly want to play games or learn the rules, a play-first app is a better start.

What Chessable is

Chessable, part of Chess.com, is a course platform for chess. The description lists over 1,000 courses on openings, tactics and endgames from players such as Magnus Carlsen, Anish Giri and Judit Polgar, studied through MoveTrainer, a spaced repetition system that brings moves back for review. Progress shows as variations learned per course.

Who it suits

• Structured chess courses
• Building and memorizing an opening repertoire

Strengths

• A large course catalog from strong players, per the description
• MoveTrainer spaced repetition for memorizing lines
• The privacy label declares no data collected
• Rated 4.8 from about 6,000 ratings and updated in October 2026

Limits

• The description refers to paid courses beyond the membership, so PRO does not unlock the whole catalog
• Offline study needs PRO
• Interface in English only
• Built for studying openings, tactics and endgames rather than teaching the rules from scratch

What the free version does

The app is free to download, and the description refers to paid courses you can preview. Chessable PRO, with a 7-day free trial, adds 300+ short courses, unlimited variation previews and full offline training.

Price

On the US App Store in November 2026, the price list includes a Chessable Monthly Membership at $11.99 and a Chessable Annual Membership at $74.99. The listing does not price the paid courses the description mentions.

Privacy

The privacy label says the developer does not collect any data from the app, so nothing is declared for tracking or linked to your identity.
